Radhika Apte to make her directorial debut with Kotya, an action fantasy film March 07, 2025 at 04:05PM

Actor Radhika Apte is all set to step into the role of a director. Known for her performances in critically acclaimed films like Padman, Andhadhun, Monica O My Darling, and more, she will now make her directorial debut with an action fantasy film titled Kotya.

The announcement was made as part of the CinéV-CHD Market lineup, alongside the second edition of India’s Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF), as reported by Variety. The lineup features 22 diverse projects from both established and emerging filmmakers.

According to the report, Radhika Apte's film is a "Hindi/Marathi action-fantasy" that follows a young migrant sugarcane cutter who gains superpowers after undergoing a forced medical procedure. She then uses these powers to help free her family from debt. The feature film will be produced by filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane.

Other projects unveiled as part of the lineup include upcoming titles from notable names such as Hansal Mehta, Nandita Das, All We Imagine As Light star Kani Kusruti, The Sky is Pink director Shonali Bose, and Eeb Alley Ooo! creator Prateek Vats.

On the work front, Radhika Apte was most recently seen in Sister Midnight. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to receive a BAFTA nomination in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer category. Radhika was also nominated for a BIFA award. The film stars her as a woman who is forced into an unhappy arranged marriage.

In December last year, Radhika Apte announced the birth of her child with her husband, Benedict Taylor. On Instagram, she shared a photograph of herself breastfeeding the newborn, marking a special moment. The photo also highlighted her return to work after taking maternity leave.
