Born on 8 June 1975 in Mangalore, she is the daughter of  Surendra  and Sunanda  younger sister  Shamita Shetty  is also an actress and dancer. She started her career in 1983 in the movie Bazigar. she is one of the high profile celebrities in India and also famous for her fitness ,yoga and meditation even she has one of the best Attractive figure in Bollywood.

She is the daughter of Surendra and Sunanda both are manufacturers of tamper proof water caps in the pharmaceutical industry in Mumbai. She has done schooling from St Anthony Girls High School in Chembur Mumbai analysis completed her graduation from Podar College in Matunga. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and also who was the captain of volleyball team at school.

In the year 1991 after completing her 10th exams she started her career as a model with Limca television channel and with many other commercials and advertisements thereafter she started receiving offers for film roles. She decided to pursue her career in modelling until she become one of the famous actress .

She started her career from movie Baazigar in 1933 and it turned out to be a  use box office state and fourth highest grossing film of the year also she has appeared in nearly 40 Bollywood Tamil Telugu and Kannada full. Her first leading role was in movie Aag in 1994, her performance in the movie Dhadkan and Rishte was really to be appreciated and portrayal of and AIDS patient in phir milenge won her many appreciation.

Main Khiladi Tu Anari was a hit movie in which she worked with Akshay Kumar. In a 1995 Shetty started working in big movie like Aao Pyar Kare ,Hathkadi with famous and known actors like Saif Ali Khan,Govinda and Madhoo but was not hit movies. India 1977 was quite busy as she appeared in six film when was Telugu language films veedevadandi Babu Bollywood action thriller order Auzaar with questions Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor.

In year 2000 she got acclaim for her role in Dhadkan because of which she received several nominations under best actress category award ceremony. Same year she started with Anil Kapoor and Karishma Kapoor for movie Rishtey and in this movie also she was appreciated and nominated for her comic performance. In 2004 she appeared in phir milenge in 2005 Shetty appeared in movie Dus. In 2006 she appeared in Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya same year she was in judge screen with Farhan Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Jhalak Dikhlaja dance show.
